Course Structure and Overview

Private Pilot Licence

This is the second step into the exciting world of aviation. Imagine the feeling of independence when you can fly and navigate your own aircraft anywhere in Australia for leisure or business and carry up to 5 passengers!
Once you have successfully gained your Recreational Pilot Licence (Step 1) and are comfortable to pilot the aircraft by yourself, you can look into taking passengers and flying a variety of larger aircraft in training towards Private Pilot Licence (PPL) and fly anywhere in Australia (Step 2). This part of the training with be conducted on our Vixxen A32, Aquila or a similar aircraft of your choice.

Step One | Obtain the Following

  • Hold a current Recreational Pilot Licence (RPL)
  • Apply for an ASIC

Step Two | Flight Training towards your Private Pilot Licence (PPL)

Complete a further 20-30 hours of flight training on a VH registered aircraft. At this stage, you will add to your existing knowledge of how to fly the aircraft and now build skills on how to navigate the aircraft from point to point. You are required to complete at least 5 hours of solo cross-country navigation. Once your instructor is confident in your ability you will need to demonstrate all that you have learnt in a flight test with a CASA approved Testing Officer, to earn your Private Pilot Licence (PPL).
Full time | 3 Months
Part-time | 6 Months or flexible as required *Students are recommended to fly at least once a week, to avoid remedial training.

Step 3 | Theory

Private Students are to study the associated content in their own times at home. One on one tutoring classes can be arranged with your flight instructor if preferred.
In your PPL theory, you will cover all the required material to prepare you for sitting your PPL Theory Exam. Modules will cover Meteorology, Navigation, Air Law and Performance. This exam will be held in a local assessment centre.
You must complete a combination of practical flight training and pass exams to be able to hold your PPL.

How do I start?

Start your journey to your Private Pilot Licence with one of our Introductory packages. We have 30 minutes, 45 minute and 60-minute trial flights but the best place to start would be our Learn to Fly Starter Package where you get three hours flying for $899.00 AUD.

These three lessons can even count towards your PPL as we give you your very own Piltos Logbook as part of the package.

The atmosphere at Soar is positive, focused, encouraging yet relaxed and smooth. With flexible timetables for classes and adaptable schedules for flight time; it’s a no-brainer to pick who I’d recommend everyone to fly with.
